First, find a fish tank stand that is able to support the weight of the fish aquarium. You probably are not thinking properly if you have a stand made of chipwood to suppport a 120 gallon fish tank! Tanks are heavy even before you fill them up with water, the sand and rocks. As a guide, one litre of water weighs about 1 kilogram. You need some solid steel here to support all that mass. If you want to be safe and not hear the suddent crashing of glass in your home, then go for the iron legs. Look for the frames that will hold the entire tank and you are able to sleep comfortably at night. By the way, you need four legged iron fish tank stand for a rectangular tank. It is a little challenging to find round iron fish tank stand though. If you are not sure what is available, go down to the aquarium supply shop and look at their catalogue. Some would specify how much weight the stand can hold. Some fish aquarium stands have seperate racks that can also hold the filter, pump and your fish food too. Take note also that your tank must be able to rest flat at all times, otherwise leaks and cracks can appear over time when the pressure from the weight is distributed unequally.

 

Second, if cheap metal fish stands are not available, you can build your own stand using bricks or wood. The stand must be secure and safe. If you intend to use bricks as your fish tank stand, then make sure they are held together with mortar. Remember one important rule, do not place the tank directly on it. Any piece of debris on the stand can cause pressure on the bottom of the tank and will result in a crack eventually. You should put in place a piece of polystyrene between the bottom of the tank and the fish stand.
